Kent Structures is delighted to have secured the construction contract for the new Maude Community Centre in New Romney, Kent.
Works will involve construction of a new two-storey sports pavilion and separate community annexe building. The local council’s aim is for the new building to become the social and community hub of the Town. The new sports pavilion will provide greatly improved facilities for local community sports clubs, including New Romney FC.
Successful Project Delivery Through Value Engineering
This is a significant win for all concerned, as this ‘unbuildable’ project has remained on the drawing board for many years – until now! With the help of our ‘value engineering’ design input, the revised project was recently passed by Folkestone & Hythe District Council planning committee.
Modern Methods of Construction
Key to bringing this build in on budget has been the implementation of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC). By taking this approach, the building structure can be manufactured remotely then lifted into place on site. Consequently the construction costs are lower and disruption for the local community reduced to a minimum.
More Sustainable, Lower Carbon Construction
A combination of MMC and material choices has also made the building more sustainable overall. Additionally, the building materials to be employed are lighter, more durable and highly fire-resistant in comparison to traditional alternatives.
Further cost savings have been achieved by refining the Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) designs to make then more efficient. We have also devised a more cost-effective drainage and civils package. This includes ground improvement techniques and modern SUDS systems to save on excavation and vehicle movements.
We hope to start on site in the coming months and completion is currently scheduled for April 2025.
