This was a very important project for Kent Structures as it was our first time working with Hutchinsons, a family business founded in 1938! A nationwide company, Hutchinsons wanted to expand into Kent. Working with Steven Dunn Architects, we delivered a 10,000sq.ft commercial steel framed building.
An old derelict cottage in the middle of waist-high vegetation needed to be demolished prior to construction. Additionally, a myriad of live electrical and gas services to make safe and remove.
Following site clearance, we began the process of building the new, single-span, duo-pitched steel portal framed building. This comprised a double-height stores hub, ancillary office space, welfare areas, meeting rooms and a reception area. The total internal office floor space was approximately 4,000sq.ft. spread over two floors.
We designed and built a fully waterproof-bunded store within the main warehouse space. The water-proofing works negate any possible accidental spillage issues. The store was created with cast in-situ concrete bund walling. The client was so pleased with the final finish that he commissioned us to use this method on further stores we built for them.
In addition to the build itself, we also laid the new car parking and yard area, erected the fencing and installed a large security gate. Furthermore, we installed an extensive solar panel array on the roof; making the building even more efficient.
The building was handed over just seven months after we started on site.
